Yes — edge restraints prevent the border pavers from shifting outward over time. We install plastic, aluminum, or stone edging depending on the design. Without edging, the paver field slowly spreads and joints open up.

Individual pavers handle freeze-thaw cycles better than poured concrete because each unit can heave slightly without cracking the surface. The key is a properly compacted, well-draining base — poor drainage under a walkway causes frost heave.
