Roof Repair FAQs

Call a roofer first. We inspect the roof, confirm whether real storm damage exists, and document it with dated photos and measurements before you file. That way you know what actually happened and have the evidence in hand. Then you open the claim, and we meet your adjuster on the roof to make sure legitimate wind or storm damage is captured accurately.

Sudden storm damage from a covered peril — wind, falling branches, or storm-driven water intrusion — is typically covered. Age, wear, and deferred maintenance are not. The gray zone is an older roof a storm actually damages: if a Santa Ana gust tears shingles off an aging roof, the wind loss is usually covered. Clear documentation is what keeps real damage from being written off as wear-and-tear.

We aim to respond to active leaks within 24 hours, and emergency tarping is often same-day. A proper tarp is anchored to solid framing and lapped so water sheds downhill, keeping your interior dry for one to three weeks while the insurance claim and permanent repair come together. We always photograph and document the damage before we cover it for your claim.

Most California policies allow one to three years from the date of loss, but many carriers also require prompt notice of the event, so file as soon as damage is confirmed. The longer the gap between the storm and the claim, the harder an adjuster pushes back on what caused the damage. We recommend documenting and filing right away once we confirm a breach.

We review the adjuster's written scope against our documented damage list and flag anything missed or undervalued. Significant gaps between the contractor scope and the carrier estimate can be supplemented and disputed with the insurer using our photos and measurements. On most replacement-cost policies, recoverable depreciation is also released after the work is finished and verified.

Sometimes. San Diego fire-zone (WUI) rules require a Class A roof assembly, Title 24 energy code brings cool-roof requirements in Climate Zone 7, and a steep-slope compliance change took effect January 1, 2026. A storm repair on an older roof may need to be brought up to current code. Your free, itemized estimate spells out exactly what is storm damage and what is a code upgrade.
