At Peak Builders & Roofers of San Diego, gutters are installed as part of the roof system, not bolted on afterward by a separate crew. The same team that details your roof edge sizes and hangs the gutters, so the drip edge, underlayment, fascia, and gutter line all work together instead of trapping water behind them. We roll-form seamless K-style gutters on site in 5-inch and 6-inch profiles — .032 heavy-gauge aluminum for most homes, or copper where the architecture calls for it — cut to the exact length of each run, so the only seams are at the corners and outlets, the two places leaks actually start.

Because San Diego goes months dry and then takes its rain in short, heavy bursts, sizing and downspout placement matter more here than in a steady-rain climate: an undersized gutter that would merely overflow in the Midwest will sheet straight over the front edge during a Pineapple Express and dump against your stucco. We calculate the roof area draining to each section, place downspouts to carry that volume clear of the foundation, and back the work with a workmanship warranty alongside the manufacturer’s material warranty. Licensed and insured since 1999 (CSLB #1008986), we stand behind every foot we hang.

Gutter FAQs

Yes. San Diego rain arrives in concentrated atmospheric-river bursts, and an un-guttered eave does the most damage during those storms. Sheeting runoff erodes foundation soil, splashes and stains the lower stucco, and keeps the fascia and roof edge chronically wet, which causes dry-rot. Gutters intercept that water at the edge and route it safely away from the house.

Sectional gutter has a joint every ten feet, and every joint is sealed with caulk that San Diego's intense UV cracks within a few seasons. Seamless aluminum is roll-formed on-site into continuous runs, so the only joints are at corners and downspout outlets. That means roughly 70 to 80 percent fewer seams and far fewer places to leak over the life of the system.

Most San Diego homes are correctly served by 5-inch K-style gutter with 2x3 or 3x4 downspouts. We step up to 6-inch with a 3x4 downspout when the roof has large planes, steep pitches, long valleys draining into one run, or when we want fewer downspouts for appearance. Sizing is calculated from roof area, pitch, and rainfall intensity, not guessed.

Properly installed seamless aluminum typically lasts 15 to 20 years along the coast and longer inland. Copper exceeds 50 years and actually resists salt air by forming a protective patina, which makes it a strong choice for tile and shoreline homes in La Jolla, Del Mar, and Coronado. Keeping runs clear of debris extends the life of any material.

On homes with overhanging eucalyptus, palms, or jacaranda, yes. We use fine Type 304 stainless micro-mesh on a powder-coated aluminum frame, which resists salt-air corrosion and blocks even shingle grit while letting water through. Guards take maintenance from two to four cleanings a year down to an occasional rinse, and they help keep combustible litter out in WUI fire zones.

It is the ideal time. New gutter should tuck under a proper drip-edge flashing so water drops cleanly into the trough instead of wicking behind it onto the fascia. Doing both together means one crew, one fascia inspection, and a re-roof often exposes hidden rot that must be repaired before any gutter can be hung. Sequencing them gives you a tighter, longer-lasting roof edge.
